We all know that Rahman has won two Oscars for his composition in Slum Dog Millionaire(2009). He Rose to an instant global fame after winning the Oscars (of course he is globally renowned even before the Oscars ).

    Since its release, the soundtrack for Bombay has been influential, both nationally and internationally. The soundtrack also found success across India in its dubbed Hindi and Telugu versions. In 2007, the soundtrack was included in The Guardian's "1000 Albums to Hear Before You Die" list,^[4] and the Hindi version of the song "Kannalane", titled "Kehna Hi Kya", was included in their "1000 Songs Everyone Must Hear" list in 2009

 

        The track’Bombay Theme’ became an internationally sensational work and has featured in several compilations. It was also sampled by many major artists. Major compilation albums on which it was appeared include

 Chakra Seven Centers (1995; in which it was credited as "Ajna Chakra"),

Anokha - Soundz of the Asian Underground (1997)

, Café del Mar Vol 5 (1998),

Ambient Chillout Mix Vol. 1 (2002) and

 Paradisiac 2 .  as per wiki

 

The track is alternatively credited as "Bombay Theme Tune," "Mumbai Theme Tune" or "Bombay Theme Music" in compilations.

 

It was featured in the Palestinian film Divine Intervention in 2002, and in the Nicolas Cage film Lord of War, in 2005.

              Now coming to the actual story, the song ‘Kontedanni katuko’ (called 'Roop Suhana lagta hai' in Hindi!) from Gentleman(1993) is used by "Pilotes Automatiques," their French rap remix of the Tamil song "Ottagathai Kattiko" from the Tamil film Gentleman composed by A. R. Rahman was a huge underground success in France.The resulting remix "Pilotes Automatique" appeared in the film Sheitan as per wiki.The hip-hop track is part of La Caution's 2005 album, 'Arc En Ciel Pour Dal Toniens'

The song Gumsum Gumsum (kehna hi hey in hindi) was a heartthrob tune to many music lovers even today. it’s a one in a million song which stuck to our hearts and brings a smile to our face even in worse situations. Music has no boundaries and no death. may be this aspect of it suits to rahman’s songs and an apt example for it is ‘gumsum gumsum’.

 

May be impressed by its tune , The Hindi version of the song was also sampled by Ciara for her 2009 song "Turntables", featuring Chris Brown. Ciara used the original song in the first 15 seconds and between a few raps in the middle. It’s a case of tribute to Rahman ,by using a mere regional low budget movie soundtrack in a pop song by a globally famous pop star.  

 

P.S: This is more of a case of sampling of songs into another rather than  copying as the credits are mentioned in the album as per wiki Bombay theme – Turnables .So don’t call it a copy ,rather it’s a tribute to Rahman’s talent.

The song Ringa Ringa from Slum Dog Millionaire(2009) was a descent and rough composition by rahman which   . But the a Danish singer & song-writer named Sys Bjerre copied ‘ringa ringa’ for her "Alle mine veninder". This song makes us feel like a urban version of ‘ringa ringa’. She retro-mixed & made a fine polish to the original to suit her native style.
